On the 8th of March, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 vanished during a routine flight between Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Beijing, China. The case has since grown into one of the most puzzling mysteries in aviation history. In this video, I examine the findings of the official investigation and explore some of the leading theories.

May 1, 2014Malaysia Airlines
On May 1, 2014, Malaysia Airlines released five audio recordings of the radio communications between air traffic control and MH370. The recordings are not complete, however, and have clearly been edited. Furthermore, the recordings appear to have been produced by holding a microphone up to a speaker.

#7Hydroacoustic Recordings
Around the time when MH370 is presumed to have crashed, four hydroacoustic monitoring stations recorded a sound which was initially though to be related to the crash of MH370. Two of the stations are operated by the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) and are codenamed HA01 and HA08. The other two are operated by the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) and are codenamed RCS and SRL. HA01 is located near Cape Leeuwin, Australia; HA08 is located at Diego Garcia; RCS is located near Rottnest Island, Australia; and SRL is located near Scott Reef, Australia. Only the recordings of HA01 and RCS have been made available online. After extensive analysis, the sound was deemed unrelated to MH370.

Mar 9, 2014New Straits Times
This article claims an unnamed pilot briefly established contact with MH370 after it disappeared from radar. He supposedly heard static and mumbling coming from the other end which he believed was that of the copilot. I did not include this in the video as the claim has never been verified. The pilot is anonymous, the author of the article is anonymous, and all other sources refer back to this (now deleted) article.
-
Apr 12, 2014The Straits Times
In the weeks following the disappearance, several news outlets reported the copilot of MH370 had made a phone call during the flight. Years later, this turned out to be false as the detection was only that of an automatic location-based signal and not a phone call.

Apart from air traffic control centers in southeast Asia, public flight trackers such as Flightradar24 also tracked MH370 before the transponders ceased to function. This information has been aggregated and compiled in this .cvs file.

#43Marital Discord
As far as I can tell, reports of marital discord between Captain Zaharie and his wife primarily stem from two articles. One was published by The New Zealand Herald on March 26, 2014, and features an anonymous "friend" and "fellow pilot". Another newspaper was unable to verify the claims made in the article. The other was published by the Daily Mail on March 29, 2014, and supposedly features direct quotes from the captain's wife and daughter. However, the daughter of the captain denies having said what is being purported as direct quotes of hers. In fact, she claims the entire article is a complete fabrication. Other relatives of the captain have also disputed the claims made in both articles.
